Advani wants river linking speeded up

Belgaum, August 20: BJP President L K Advani has urged Prime Minister
Manmohan Singh to convene an all-party meeting to discuss the issue of
inter-linking of rivers.

The task force on inter-linking of rivers, set up during the NDA
regime to find solutions to the problems of floods and drought, had
already completed a lot of groundwork and a large number of states
were enthusiastic about it, but then the government changed, he told
reporters at the airport here yesterday after undertaking an aerial
survey of the flood-ravaged areas in North Karnataka.

Referring to the flood situation in Karnataka, he urged the state
government to attend to the problems of the affected people "earnestly
and vigorously".

Advani also said disaster management should be accorded importance in
all states. (Agencies)
