The United States has denied an entry visa to senior Maoist leader, Suresh Alemager, who wanted to attend a UN program in New York.
Alemagar is a CPN-Maoist Central Committee member, and part of the Nepalese delegation due to visit New York and Peru.
The US embassy, despite granting the other nine members of the delegation entry visas, denied a visa to Alemagar since he once belonged to a former rebel group. He has since joined the political mainstream in Nepal.
"The US denied a visa to me being a member of a former terrorist organization, but the greatest terrorist in the world is the US itself," he stated.
The UN mission in Nepal (UNMIN) has placed an official complaint with the US embassy requesting Alemagar's visa to be granted.
