nternational Relations Conference on “Shifting Sands: India in the Changing Global Order”

October 18, 2011

The Public Diplomacy Division of the Ministry of the External Affairs in partnership with the Centre for Policy Research (CPR) is organizing India's first national level International Relations (IR) Conference on 22-23 October 2011 at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. Hon'ble Vice President of India, Shri M. Hamid Ansari has kindly agreed to deliver the keynote address at the conference.

The conference, entitled Shifting Sands: India in the Changing Global Order, will feature members of the International Relations fraternity, senior officials from MEA, and strategic and foreign policy analysts among others. Confirmed speakers at the conference include National Security Adviser Shri Shivshankar Menon and the Foreign Secretary Shri Ranjan Mathai. Over 150 experts in International Relations, including some coming from Srinagar, Chandigarh, Kolkata, Guwahati, Shillong, Hyderabad, Chennai, Thiruvananthapuram, Mumbai, Pune and elsewhere have already confirmed their participation.

This conference is an attempt to build two sets of relationships. It will provide a platform for prominent International Relations institutions to engage with each other's work. It will also give the academic community and MEA the opportunity to interact more closely with one another.

It is envisaged that the conference will become an annual event that will be managed with the support of the academic IR community in India. An annual conference on these lines could provide a much needed fillip to the academic study of IR in India.

The programme of the conference can be seen in the Media Advisory. In addition to the various thematic sessions, we are paying special attention to the four breakaway sessions that will feature a lively interaction between the heads of various divisions of MEA and members of the academic community.
