Kashmiris observe 'Black Day' against occupation of the region by Pakistan

On October 22, 1947, Pakistan violated the “Standstill Agreement” with Maharaja Hari Singh of Jammu and Kashmir and invaded the territory.
It currently occupies the region, which is now known as Azad Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan.
As per the UN resolutions of August 13, 1948, Pakistan must withdraw its forces from Azad Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan, but it continues to occupy them illegally.
Nationalist political parties in Azad Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan recently observed October 22 as “Black Day” in remembrance of the 1947 invasion by Pakistani army personnel disguised as tribesmen, who killed over 35,000 Muslims, Hindus and Sikhs.

They violated that, they attacked with the help of tribal warriors from North West Frontier who entered the state on 22nd of October. They killed and raped innocent people, destroyed houses, looted, and tens of thousands of people died as a result." Said SHABIR CHAUDHARY Spokesperson & Leader, Kashmir National Party(KNP)
Since 1947, people of Azad Kashmir and Gilgit- Baltistan have been leading a miserable life and remain victims of Pakistan’s discriminatory policies.
Pakistan has been exploiting the region’s natural resources, minerals and water and in return has given poverty, illiteracy and unemployment to the people of Azad Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan.
The area is also witnessing a growing presence of Chinese troops and companies that are keen to exploit the natural resources of the region.
China has a strategic intent to dominate Azad Kashmir in general and Gilgit Baltistan in particular.
“ Pakistan and China, both are exploiting the natural resources like gold, uranium, copper and other minerals from Gilgit-Baltistan. This is the violation of UN resolution and violation of their own mutual international agreements.” said ABDUL HAMID KHAN Chairman, Balawaristan National Front (BNF)

“China declares Jammu and Kashmir on the Indian side as a disputed territory and issues a staple visa to the Kashmiris living there. However, China finds no dispute with the Kashmir territory illegally occupied by Pakistan. In Azad Kashmir (occupied by Pakistan) China has initiated many projects. It indicates that China has very serious designs in Azad Kashmir. The world community must ask China about its duplicity on Kashmir.” Said ABDUL HAMID KHAN
Chairman, Balawaristan National Front (BNF)

Nationalist parties in Azad Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan allege that Pakistani spy agencies provide training to terrorists in the region.
“Pakistanis are controlling that area (Gilgit-Baltistan) and they shift terrorist from Pakistan to Gilgit Baltistan and they settled them in special camp and cantonments to give training and arms to send to Afghanistan and Indian side of Kashmir and anywhere. “ said ABDUL HAMID KHAN
Chairman, Balawaristan National Front (BNF)
People of Azad Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan are extremely unhappy with Pakistan’s illegal occupation of the region.
It is time that the political future of the area was determined in accordance with the wishes of the people.
