Lawsuit States Husain Haqqani Wasted and Minted Huge Amount of Public Money

'Put Haqqani on ECL, try him for treason'

Court moved for high treason proceedings against Haqqani

Lahore, Pakistan, 22 November 2011 (The News International) - A petition has been moved in the Lahore High Court seeking directions of the federal government to bar Husain Haqqani - Pakistan's [former] ambassador to the US, [who was fired by PPP prime minister Yusuf Raza Gilani on Tuesday, 22 November 2011] - from fleeing the country by placing his name on the ECL [Exit Control List] and initiate High Treason [constitutional Article 6] proceedings against him on charges of violating the [Pakistan] Constitution.

A [Pakistani] citizen, Muhammad Iftikhar Hussain Rajput, has filed the petition through Barrister Iqbal Jaffery, and made Cabinet Secretary Nargis Sethi, opposition leader in the National Assembly Nisar Ali Khan, Interior Minister [Abdul] Rehman Malik and Attorney General of Pakistan Anwar ul Haq as respondents in the petition.

He [the petitioner] said Haqqani had sent a derogatory letter to former US military Chief [US Navy ex-Admiral] Mike Mullen through a US- based [American] businessman Mansoor Ijaz against the Pakistan Army and Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).

He said Haqqani had tarnished the image of both Pakistan and its armed forces, and made an attempt to pledge Pakistan’s sovereignty to America. The petitioner pleaded that Haqqani was holding dual nationality of Pakistan and the USA. He said in the past, Haqqani was appointed [Pakistan] ambassador to Sri Lanka against merit during Nawaz Sharif's tenure as prime minister.

But later he changed the party and became a member of "Zardari Group", and got lucrative post of Pakistani ambassador in the USA again in violation of merit.

He said Haqqani wasted and minted huge amount of public money (estimated "$ 5 million") in unsuccessful defense of Dr. Aafia Siddiqui in American courts that not only caused humiliation to Pakistan, but Aafia was also awarded life-term [86 years in an American prison].

He said to unearth the truth, a lie detecting machine be applied on Haqqani and other politicians. He requested the court to direct all the respondents to declare all their assets in the country and foreign countries along with affidavits. He prayed the court to initiate proceedings against him [Husain Haqqani] on the charges of High Treason under Article 6 of the [Pakistan] Constitution.
