IC-814 Khandahar Hijack Militant Living Under Hindu Identity Arrested

Javed alias Mehrajuddin Dand, the suspected militant behind the IC-814 Khandahar hijiack and living in Nepal under a Hindu identity has been arrested  in the Kishtwar district. Mehrajuddhin has in his list, been involved a sizable number of terror activities including the Khandahar air hijack of 1999 and numerous blasts across the country. He is believed to be the right-hand man of Hizbul Mujahideen chief Syed Salahuddin.
During the Kandahar hijack operation, Mehraj is supposed to have provided the hijackers with fake travel documents along with logistical support. He is stated to have been part of extensive terror operations for more than 20 years in Jammu and Kashmir. Another report suspects him to have links with Dawood Ibrahim as well.

Mehrajuddhin is alleged to be a key conspirator of the 1996 Lajpat Nagar blasts. Having settled in Nepal under a Hindu identity to avoid being nabbed, he had ample number of  hideouts across India. Mehrajuddhin figures in the top 20 names of India's most wanted fugitives. According to Jammu and Kashmir police the arrest is the biggest catch in 25 years.

According to government sources, Mehrajuddin was not part of a particular militant outfit, but was a coordinator amongst various militant groups. He is believed to be one of the key members of Pakistan's intelligence agency Inter-Services Intelligence, apart from being a clever fund raiser too. Sources have also indicated that he was part of the first batch of Hizbul Mujahideen outfit to have crossed into Pakistan and arrived in India for training.
