DescriptionNo other area in sub-continent and in the Persian Gulf region has been traversed by foreign armies as much as Baluchistan. Situated as it is on the Arabian Sea, Mukran coast of Baluchistan provided a base to the armies of foreign conquerors ranging from Alexander the Great to Muhammad bin Qasim who laid the foundation of Muslim rule in Sindh. The importance of Baluchistan was known to the British. They used it as a base for military operation to block the expansion of Russia in the direction of the Indian Ocean and Persian Gulf.     

 About The Author:

The author: Syed Iqbal Ahmed is a Lt, Col. In the Pakistan Army. He took his Ph. D and M.A. Degrees in International Relations from the University of Karachi. And he graduated from the renowned Command and Staff College in Quetta. He was on active duty during the Indo-Pakistan wars of 1965 and 1971, and was awarded Tamgha-i-Imtiaz (Military).
